Pop Up Vintage Shop! by This Old Thing? Guerrilla Store - Boston

Sunday August 13th 2006...
Thanks to everyone who came down on Sunday to witness and support our store! We had an amazing time, and we were beyond excited to see the responce to our concept. Here is a little background on what we are about...

This Old Thing? originaly started as a line of reconstructed vintage clothing in the spring of 2004. For the past two years we have been creating handcrafted one-of-a-kind garments for men, and selling them at small boutiques around the country.
As we have been searching New York, New Jersey, and Massachusettes for clothing to work from, we began to develop an eye for good Vintage labels, fits, and fabrics. We started to amass this amazing collection of clothing that we did not want to work from, but instead, save with the intention of opening our own store someday. Now, if you have ever looked into renting a retail space in New York City, you understand what was holding us back... let's just say, about a million dollars.
So, six weeks ago Roy and I (the owners and designers of This Old Thing?) called our good friends Desi & Marc (owners and designers of Design of Boston) and pitched the idea of turning their beautiful hair salon into a Vintage Boutique for just one day. We all knew this would be an exciting, productive, and revolutionary project - so we put the pedal to the metal and started planning!

As they say in the biz, the rest is history!

Thanks to EVERYONE who forwarded our e-mail invites, Marc & Desi for passing out about 400 flyers, a slick write-up in the Boston Herald by Jill Radskin, friends telling friends to tell friends, a calendar listing in Bay Windows, a full feature on Refinery29.com, and many, many Blog mentions, we had a tremendous turnout, amazing customers, and lots of encouragement from everyone involved.

GET READY YA'LL! We're commin' back again! Stay tuned for details!
(don't worry, we're bringing MORE JEWELRY! Almost all of it was sold within the first two hours!)

You are so right, renting retail space in New York City can be VERY expensive. I really like the concept you cam up with, though. The pop-up boutique idea was brilliant and seemed to be a huge success.
